Type of project: Wedding design set including wedding invitation, envelopes, digital RSVP form and guests’ names cards – concept, design & illustrations – all inspired by the popular The Lord of the Rings fantasy trilogy
Tools & Techniques: Adobe Illustrator
Client: The Bogdanov’s family
Description of the project:
This wedding design project was deeply inspired by The Lord of the Rings universe, with its epic storylines, characters, and enchanting epochs. Together with the soon-to-wed couple, we expanded upon the initial ideas to create a custom design set.
We designed a personalized logo featuring the names of the bride and groom and carefully selected the project typography, combining elegant fonts and customized thematic inscriptions. The invitations and envelopes were crafted in two language versions — English and Bulgarian — ensuring inclusivity for both local and international guests.
The overall aesthetic of the set, including invitations, envelopes, guest name cards, and RSVP form, embodied a minimalist, modern, magical, and romantic theme. Elements such as wreaths, branches, and constellations of ivy leaves brought a slightly seasonal touch to the autumn wedding. We enriched the concept with illustrations of Bilbo Baggins’ door, rings, and the Tree of Gondor. Hidden Elvish messages were included within the invitation’s cover and body to add a sense of elven mystery.
A custom-drawn map, in the style of J.R.R. Tolkien (featuring Smaug over the Lonely Mountain), provided key directions to the venue. Additionally, a QR code directed guests to a digital themed RSVP form.
The materials were carefully curated for the production process: deep forest green Keaykolor Holly for the invitation cover and Olin Cream for the invitation body – to reflect the world of the Hill; Keaykolor Particles Sunshine with shimmering copper and gold fibers for the guests’ name cards – to play with the sunset’s last rays on the big day. The invitation also featured rich bronze hot foil effect, custom laser-cut contours, and a uniquely designed cover to hold the invitation body securely inside, also hiding a secret message on its back.
Each guest name card included one of ten personalized symbols inspired by The Lord of the Rings: the Tree of Gondor, Tolkien’s logo to represent Anduin, Arwen Evenstar for Rivendell/Lomidol, the Rohan horse, the Isengard symbolic hand, Sauron’s eye and mask for Mordor, Mirkwood for Fangorn, the Door of Durin for Khazad-Dûm, the Arms of Rohan for Bree, and the Leaf of Lorien for Hobbiton.
Custom-made envelopes were designed to enrich the set, ensuring every detail felt like part of the magical world the couple envisioned.
The bride and groom were thrilled with the results, expressing that our designs greatly contributed to making their wedding an unforgettable experience. They shared that the guests were equally impressed with both the creativity and execution of the design concept.
